At peak times the program that we use for processing your picture uploads can give you a 'Server Error 500' error message or you may also see a message like 'Out of memory'.
If you experience this problem you should help us to help you by ensuring that your images are:
- No larger than 1200 x 1024 pixels in size, (width by height).
- Have been reduced in quality to 96 dots per inch (dpi). This is all a monitor can display so anything over that is a waste.
- No larger than 500k, (file size).
- UPDATE: We believe that new JPEG image information that is stored with pictures taken on modern digital cameras (EXIF), is causing issues when uploading. Information about the picture, when it was taken and the make/model of the camera used is now stored as part of the actual JPEG picture. You may get better upload results if you remove this information. As below, re-save the image in Paint and this information will be discarded. Whilst the file size might go up, the 14,000 properties that can now be stored in the image will be removed.
Some digital cameras take photographs at amazing resolutions, which is needed to get a good picture when printed. Uploading pictures straight from digital cameras is complete overkill when they will be displayed on the Internet only.
Most computers come with a program for editing images and should have tools for resizing and reducing the quality/resolution, (dpi).
Windows users should look for a program called 'Paint' in the start menu.
