Understanding Movie Renting and Buying Options
When managing your movie library, it’s important to understand how renting and buying options work — and how to configure them for your audience.
Renting Movies
By default, the renting option is automatically enabled for all movies in your library. This means users can immediately rent and watch your titles without any additional setup on your part.
When a user rents a movie, they receive temporary access to it. Specifically, the rental period lasts for the entire duration of the movie plus an extra 15 minutes.
Buying Movies
Same as renting, buying is also enabled by default, however, the system will automatically set a default buy price based on the existing rental price. By default, the buy price is calculated as 2.5 times the rent price.
You can adjust the buy price up to 5x the rental price, giving you control over your pricing strategy in your Movie Library page.
If you wish to disable the purchase option, you can do so under Movie Monetisation.
Lifetime Access for Purchased Movies
When a user decides to buy a movie instead of renting it, they gain permanent access to that title. Purchased movies remain available indefinitely unless deleted from the profile, allowing users to rewatch them anytime without any expiration or additional fees.
